The most sustainable brands of 2026
Most "most sustainable brands" lists are editorial picks. This one isn't. The Sustainable Brand Index ranks more than 1,600 brands across five Northern European markets, based on what 80,000+ consumers say each year – using the same methodology since 2011.

How we rank them
Each year, more than 80,000 consumers across Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands evaluate the brands they know on two pillars: environmental responsibility and social responsibility. Each brand receives a score, and brands are ranked within their industry and country. The methodology has not changed since 2011, so rankings are comparable year over year and brand by brand.

- Consumer-led, not editor-led. The ranking reflects what real consumers say – not what an editorial team chooses.
- Cross-industry. Fashion, grocery, banking, energy, automotive and more are measured side by side.
- Longitudinal. 16 years of comparable data means we can show real trajectories, not just snapshots.
- Local. Five separate country rankings – because perception of sustainability doesn't generalize across borders.
